With the package re-using existing PlayStation peripherals such as the PlayStation Move controllers and PlayStation Camera, the PSVR headset itself was sold separately in some instances, despite the other components being vital parts of getting everything up-and-running. Some of these titles were more fun than others, obviously, but all of them made the same point: PSVR doesn't suck.īefore we go on talking about PlayStation VR's finer points (and foibles), let's get the basics out of the way.Īt launch, the PlayStation VR headset had a slightly confusing sales proposition. We've now tried dozens of games on the PlayStation VR console, from Rocksteady's impressive (but short) Batman: Arkham VR, to the laugh-out-loud funny Job Simulator, to the tear-jerking Wayward Sky and even gun-peripheral-toting horror game Farpoint VR. When you think about it, it really is remarkable that the affordable PSVR solution is as capable as it is. It has its problems, but by and large the PlayStation VR proves that not only is console VR viable, it's actually enjoyable, too. Go was a good VR intro for many - it's now discontinued - but it doesn't match up. Different story for Oculus Quest 2, though.

While Oculus Rift has closed in on the cost disparity, the PSVR only requires a PS4 console to run, not an expensive PC setup. The Oculus Go doesn't offer the immersive gaming quality the PSVR does. I think this is indeed a good experience that is sadly far too short (like most VR games are at the moment), so don’t pay £14.99, just wait for a sale for half-price or better. For now at least, the PlayStation VR is truly different to anything else on the market. The good news is that this slow pace allows you to take in the gorgeous graphics and sublime sound effects at your leisure. This isn’t the fighting / all-out action we have come to expect, but rather a slower-paced science and detective-style gameplay. The story goes that you need to find out who attacked Nightwing using your grapple gun, the classic Batarangs and even a forensic scanner. From Wayne Manor to the Batcave, there are loads of great locations to see and while the game is short, what there is looks simply amazing. But Batman VR is something very different and while this isn’t the VR game we all wanted, it’s a pretty good short experience. Review: Over the last few Batman games, Rocksteady has shown people just how good a Batman licenced video game can be and well done to them. Utilize his legendary gadgets in Virtual Reality to unravel a plot that threatens the lives of Batman’s closest allies.
